New American Talent juror, Hamza Walker, Curator and Director of Education, The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago.
Admission is free and open to the public.
The twenty-fourth in a series of annual juried exhibitions, New American Talent features the work of emerging artists working in a variety of mediums including sculpture, painting, photography and new media. Each work on view was selected by New American Talent juror, Hamza Walker, Curator and Director of Education, The Renaissance Society, The University of Chicago. This year’s New American Talent exhibits the work of 26 artists from the United States—12 of whom currently live and work in Texas.

Hamza Walker is Curator and Director of Education for the Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago. He has written articles and reviews for the publications Trans, New Art Examiner, Parkett, and Artforum, and was a selecting curator for the Phaidon publications Vitamin P and Cream 3. Curatorial projects at the Renaissance Society include the group exhibitions A Perfect Union...More or Less; New Video, New Europe and Watery, Domestic; he also organized a survey of Michael Auder's videos. Walker currently is on the boards of Noon, a literary annual publishing short fiction, and Lampo, a new and experimental music presenter. In addition, he has served on numerous panels locally and internationally, and is the recipient of the 1999 Norton Curatorial Grant and the 2004 Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement.
PUBLICATION
The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue available for purchase for $5.00.
TRAVELING EXHIBITION
As part of Arthouse’s Art On Tour program, New American Talent: The Twenty-Fourth Exhibition will be available for exhibition at art spaces and community centers throughout Texas from September 2009– June 2011.
