The Arthouse Texas Prize recognizes innovation, talent and marked contributions to a thriving Texas contemporary art scene. Awarded biennially, this juried $30,000 prize will distinguish and celebrate a promising Texas-based artist who has produced a significant body of contemporary work in the past two years. Only those artists who have been a resident of Texas for over three years are eligible to compete for the prize. In keeping with Arthouse's mission to nurture artists' careers and deepen public understanding of contemporary art, the Arthouse Texas Prize underscores the importance and strength of contemporary art practice in Texas. Nominations will be provided by a select group of art-world professionals who are tuned into the Texas art scene. From these nominations, the jury will select three finalists whose work will be on view in an exhibition at Arthouse. The prize recipient will be announced at the Arthouse Annual Gala November 2, 2007. A full-color catalog documenting the artists and their work will be published in conjunction with this occasion.
