Lounge! An Intersection of Art & Design....

November 20 - January 16, 2004

Matthew Geller, sixty weak knees, 2004. Site specific installation, dimensions variable.

Organized by Arthouse Adjunct Curator, Regine Basha and Kevin S. Alter, Associate Dean, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Austin.

Arthouse selected New York-based artist Matthew Geller's proposal titled sixty weak knees as the design for Lounge! after conducting a nationwide request to architects, designers and artists, asking them to conceive of a temporary, multipurpose lounge for Arthouse's empty 3,000 square foot gallery space.

Lounge! will function as a temporary forum for programs and discussions regarding the blurring of art, architecture and design in modern and contemporary culture. Visit Lounge! to relax, enjoy our reading area of seminal books on architecture and design, view weekly film screenings, listen to a curated audio program and attend informal discussions and workshops.

Sounds of Lounge!
An ongoing program including sound works by: Weightless Animals (Mandy McIntosh, Kaffe Matthews, Zeena Parkins), William Basinski, Emanuel Madan of The User, Christian Manzutto, Steve Roden, David Schafer, Luz MarÍa Sánchez, Jude Tallichet, Stephen Vitiello and collaborations, Paolo Vivacqua, and introducing The Relay Project, a new audio magazine.

Visitors enjoy a lecture by Joep Van Lieshout.

The exhibition also includes twenty-five proposals from Texas and around the country, on view in the Arthouse project space for the duration of Lounge! The proposals range from maquettes, quicktime videos, audio projects and architectural drawings representing the diverse and often visionary or challenging ideas on the minds of emerging architects, designers, landscape architects and visual artists today.
