The Renovation According to Forrest Preece Chapter 28

May 12th, 2010 · 1 Comment

As of this week, framing is set to start on the Arthouse mezzanine. The base layer of stucco on the north side is ready to be laid down. The east (front) side of the building is getting furred out, just like the south side. And finish work continues on the grand staircase, which is very grand indeed.

Lots of heat but no damage last Friday! A tar kettle just like this one which was on the ground in front of the building caught on fire in the blazing Texas heat and caused a small commotion. But there was no damage to the building and the construction has not slowed one bit.

Here is a look at the Grand Staircase from the approximate location of the front door.

Scaffolding is in place and work is happening on the front of the building.

PS – if you haven’t yet, check out our LIVE WEBCAM for 24-hour coverage of the renovation underway at 700 Congress Avenue.
